Description
Question: With what we know about racism and white supremacy, is it ethical to continue to use established theories, methods and practices to address social problems? This workshop will define racism and white supremacy and explore its role in creating and maintaining social pathology and dysfunction. The psychology of racists, white supremacists and their victims will be examined. Implications for social policy, mental health, service delivery and service utilization will be explored. Practical solutions for ethical practice will be offered.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
1. Define racism and white supremacy
2. Explain the role of power, social policy and economic segregation in maintaining racism and white supremacy
3. Identify at least 3 traits of a racist and white supremacist
4. Implement at least 2 ethical, sustainable practices to prevent and eliminate racism and white supremacy
5. Advocate for social policies that prevent social intolerance
6. Expand the knowledge base to accommodate indigenous standards of care
7. Identify and effectively treat at least 4 features of racism and white supremacy that create and maintain social pathology and dysfunction
